The Best of Duane Eddy

Sheet Music
This book is actually a book of sheet music for Duane Eddy's songs. There are only a few pages about Duane Eddy's life. So if you want to play like the great Duane Eddy it rates a 5 but if you want his life story it offers very little.-- A Duane Eddy Fan Larry Betz

A family affair
Published in Unknown Binding by ()
Author: Roger W. Eddy
Average review score:

A Family that makes it their affair.
I happened to find this book at an old bookstore and bought it for a few dollars. I would have paid the going rate on a paperback for it though.

While the story may not be that different from any other book, the characters pull you in.

Charlie who grows up in a small town admiring families that had more than he did. He goes looking for the care free beauty Polly Chambers and finds Lucy the older sister.

He marries Lucy and finds out that marrying into a prominent family may not be all that it is cracked up to be. A mother in law that is the master of manipulation and is training her daughter to be her protégée. Charlie's father in law is beaten down by a business that he never wanted to run and a wife that is more the brains behind the operation that anyone will admit. Polly who helps her family earn the title of dysfunctional.

After Lucy and her mother orchestrate Charlie going to work at the business, he starts to find out who he is and what he is made of. Temptation comes his way from a sassy neighbor and he learns that he has to put his foot down or he too could become the mouse of a man his father in law has become. When he finally lays the law down for his wife Lucy, it makes you want to stand up and cheer.

It's an interesting book to read. A quick read with a delightful ending.

How to Know the Freshwater Fishes
Published in Spiral-bound by McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math (01 March, 1978)
Author: Samuel, Eddy
Average review score:

Very useful keys
I have used this book in numerous fish surveys in Michigan, and have found the keys to be extremely useful, easy to use, and well illustrated. It and Scott & Crossman's "Freshwater Fishes of Canada" are almost the only fish ID books I use. A caveat - its broad geographic scope makes it less useful than regional keys, if they exist for your area.

The Lay Ministry Revolution: How You Can Join
Published in Paperback by Baker Book House (October, 1995)
Authors: Eddy Hall and Gary Morsch
Average review score:

A Well Constructed Tool for Inspiring Lay Ministry
I read this book immediatly after finishing William Easum's "Sacred Cows Make Gourmet Burgers", the messages from both were similar, despite a large separation in point-of-view. Hall and Morsch seem to be looking at lay ministry from the more evangelical end of the reformed faith. Easum from the heavily structured "mainline" churches. I had not considered the possibility that there might be just as many problems in broadening the meaning of ministry for the faith communities which are more grounded in the spiritual as those with a more secular ministry - we are all wandering sinners. The text is filled with provocative stories followed by just enough analytical insight to start an interesting discussion(or many)about the role of the laity in the church of the Third Millenium. Good points are made about how the early church embraced lay ministry, how it was lost, and how it can be cultivated anew. This book is a fine stand alone read for those who are exploring ways to empower their own ministry but would best be used in a small-group study setting as fully one third of it is devoted to guidance in using it for such. It would work well as a midweek-evening dinner-group study or for a short Sunday school session. Find your spiritual gifts and become part of the revolution!

Excellent For Beginners...
For the people unfaimiliar to Access, this book will be a great help to you. It takes you step by step through many basic processes in order to build your own database. It takes you through indexing, forms, designing the user interface, queries, reports, tables etc, well worth the money to get you started.

I would not recommend intermediate or advanced users purchasing this book as there are no advanced topics covered.

Understanding Marxism: An Approach Through Dialogue. Introd by E. Kamenka. Originally Written As Discussion Course for Dept of Adult Ed, U of Sydney,
Published in Hardcover by Rowman & Littlefield (December, 1978)
Author: William Henry Charles Eddy
Average review score:

A great introduction to Marxism
It is a shame that this is out of stock. I recently read this book and it helped me understand the basic tenets of Marxism more clearly. It does this in an interesting way: a dialogue between three people with varying positions on Marxism and history. Very good introduction to Marxism.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse: Black Furies (Werewolf the Apocalypse)
Published in Paperback by White Wolf Publishing Inc. (February, 2002)
Authors: Joe Gentile and Eddy Newell
Average review score:

Great she-wolves...it's pay back time
The universe of werewolf the apocalypse is very dark, filled with hate and abuse. In real life lots of stupid persons hit their ladies...well...the Black Furies hit back.

Some people will find it weird the way the main characters behave, they don't seem to be human, they kill a guy in an instant (just because this guy tried to seduce you in a silly way), but surprise...they aren't Humans, they are werewolves...worst, they are from the tribe of the black furies, and they don't take [junk] from anyone, especially a male ape.

Now technically speaking, the choice of not collouring this comic was very intelligent, it's scarier this way; the drawing is very strong and competent as is the story.

Sweethearts: The Timeless Love Affair-On-Screen and Off-Between Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy
Published in Hardcover by Donald I Fine (September, 1994)
Authors: Sharon Rich and Jon Eddy
Average review score:

A must read biography!
As a devolted fan of Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy I was pleased to read this fair and objective biography. Once I started, I could not put the book down until I completed it the next day. Ms. Rich has done her research most throughly. The book is interesting at all times and moves quite fast. While a fan also, Sharon Rich remains objective at all times. I througly enjoyed reading SWEETHEARTS

Keeping one's promises
Sharon Rich is an extraordinary woman. I know. I've known her since first reading "Farewell to Dreams" and asking her to actually document the Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald story better before attempting to sell it to Hollywood. It was at this time that I began to insist that all of the interviews with some of Sharon's sources be videotaped... or audiotaped... so that the research could be preserved even after the interviewees died. Many of them have, sadly, passed on. But the tapes survive! In those days, a co-writer and I insisted that Sharon meticulously database the whereabouts of all the principals from the moment they met until their deaths, and she did just that. She poured through documents -- every kind of printed source (including the LA Times, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department logs, English newspapers, fanzines, Variety, etc) until she could darn near tell you on an hourly basis where Nelson, Jeanette, Gene, Ann Eddy, L.B. Mayer, and others were. While compiling the database, Sharon also came into possession of letters, unpublished autobiographies, and people who are still alive who can swear to the veracity of the information in Sweethearts. I can personally swear to meeting many of the people who knew Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. I can tell you, I have met Gene Raymond... interviewed him over lunch and also watched him meet one of his former lovers and Jeanette's gay friends. I have talked to people who sat at Blossom Rock's feet and heard the story first hand. I am convinced, from these interviews, that Blossom was not only in her right mind... but capable of telling the story (one way or another). Just because you cannot always speak doesn't mean you cannot write or communicate in other ways. This book is true, and the sources are available for researchers to access. It's a shame people like Turk do NOT make use of the invitation to do so. This is not only a terrific read, but it is the the life work of a woman who made a promise to Blossom Rock to tell the truth about Jeanette. She has kept her promise.

Both THUMBS UP for this Book! Long Live Jeanette & Nelson!
I've read both new biographys of Jeanette MacDonald and I would really recommend this one. The one written by Mr. Turk is a sugar-coated silly tribute to Gene Raymond. Jeanette and Nelson were obvioulsy very much in love. This seems evident by just how they looked at one another. Both of them seem somewhat lost today. It's really a shame that society has sunk so low. We can only hope that their kind will come back sometime soon! This book is such a good read and very entertaining while still being very honest and candid. I too have first hand knowledge by way of another Hollywood Luminary, none other than Ann Sothern who was a frequent co-star with Gene Raymond in the 1930's and a fellow player at MGM in the early 1940's. Ms. Sothern shared some very interesting facts regarding the MacDonald/Eddy relationship. It is such a shame that they were not able to live a life together. Many years from now, the written words and gossip will all be forgotten, but the films they made for us will live forever. Thanks Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald from the bottom of my heart for sharing your wonderful talents with us, We all hope you are singing together forever more!
